“The Cavaghan & Gray factory in Carlisle used to have a loud horn which sounded at 1pm and 1:30pm every day to tell the workers when the lunch break was. The sound of this horn was apparently heard by saxophonist Steve Gregory as he was driving past listening to the demo of Careless Whisper by George Michael. It was the pitch of the Cavvy’s horn that made him realise that to get his solo right he would need to lower the key of the song.”
